Solar powered water pumps for Bwengu

This project builds on CYD’s work of keeping girls in school in Bwengu Community where the Turing Trust constructed a girl’s hostel and ablution block at Bwengu Community Day Secondary School.

The project will install a submersible solar powered pump, 10,000 litre reserve tanks and plumbing works to provide potable water to 180 girls in their hostels, 260 day school students and 200 households that form the school’s community.

Once completed, this project will enable 440 students to access water within the school environment allowing them to concentrate on their studies and improving examination results. Access to potable water would also contribute to reduction of water-borne diseases prevalent as a result of using water free from contaminated sources.

It will take approximately 6 months and can begin once funds are available, coronavirus permitting as we will need to contract engineers to install.
